Downloading Error (This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.)
I have Windows 7 installed on a machine that we use to take images from. This OS is a fresh install. When we go to a internet site to download drivers we get this error. "This operation has been cancelled duto to restriction in effect on this computer." If we run the program instead of trying to save it, it'll work. This OS is preconfigured to some degree before it arrives at our location for install. I'm a administrator on these machines but cannot seem to fix this. I have been unable to locate a GPO that effects this or a registry entry most of the stuff online refers to outlook or Chrome being installed which is not the case here since Chrome is not a approved browser for our organization. I've also attempted to set program acces and computer defaults but this section is greyed out and when I make changes it does not save. I'm sure this preconfigured setting but am unable to find where to set this so I can make the changes.

This is an ‘old chestnut’ that continually crops up, I think it started with Win98 or certainly WinXP. In Windows 7 go to Control Panel > Default Programs > Set your default programs > Click Custom, select Internet Explorer and click Set this program as default. If that doesn’t work, read this, particularly the registry key changes here http://www.slipstick.com/problems/link_restrict.htm#reg2

I cannot make the below change In Windows 7 go to Control Panel > Default Programs > Set your default programs > Click Custom, select Internet Explorer and click Set this program as default. I'm able to make the change but when I click "OK" and return to the same place the setting are reset from what I changed them to, in other words the changes I'm making aren't being accepted. Is there a GPO or registry key change that will allow me to edit this without it reverting back? **Update: I still cannot download files I've done everything on the link above and it still doesn't solve my problem can someone please advise again the only thing I cannot do is the Set Default programs because it doesn't save my selections.

Hi, You may refer the following steps to resolve the issue. Start Internet Explorer. Click the Tools icon and click Internet Options. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset. Click the Programs tab, and then click Set programs. Click Set your default programs. Click to select Microsoft Outlook, and then click Set this program as default. Click OK, and then close the Default Programs dialog box. In the Internet Options dialog box, click the Programs tab, and then click Make default under Default web browser. Click OK. Did you ever work out what is wrong. I have a very similar problem. Can run putty directly from web, but can't download application itself. Working in a very secure environment with SSLF policy in place. Think we have just applied the Office 2010 policy....guessing its one of these that is causeing the issue.....can't work out which one thought. Cheers Iain
