Download problems with Windows 7 RC
I have downloaded & installed Windows 7 and everything seemed ok until i tried to download other programs, ie, anti virus, nvidia driver, just about everything. All i getwhen trying to install is corupt file, unable to install. I have a Siemens Gigaset SE 587 WLAN dsl router if that helps and my isp is Tiscali. Any ideas ???

Have you ever been able to download anything with the RC? Or did it start the download corruption from the start?First off, you can try to reset IE 8. Press the ALT key - that will bring up the regular text menu. Click Tools | Internet Options and click on the Advanced tab. At the bottom, there's a button marked RESET. Click it. That will reset IE 8 to it's default state after installation. Try downloading something once you've done this and see if it cures the problem. If not, on to plan B...IF you have access to another machine, download a copy of Firefox 3.0. Copy it to a USB stick or other external drive and then install it on your Windows 7 machine. Before anyone gets their undies in a bunch - the purpose is to test to see if something's wrong with IE 8 or if it's something else. Try downloading something with Firefox. Check to see if the download went successfully.. If it didn't cure the problem, you might try going into Device Manager, and looking at your network port - find out what chipset you've got. Using the other machine, go to the maker's web site and see if they have any updated drivers. Copy to the USB stick and bring it back to the Win7 box. Install the updated driver and see if that cures the problem by testing both IE 8 and Firefox 3.If that doesn't, let us know...

Buffaloe - You didn't answer my first question - were you ever able to download anything successfully, or did the computer do this from the start?I'll add a 2nd question to the mix: Where did you download the RC bits from?

If you can think of anything else i would br grateful. By the way, I did a clean install If all you did was reformat/repartition your root drive prior to installing Windows 7 then you have notdone a clean install. An ideal clean install consists of a total erase (writing zeros to entire drive), or a quick erase (first and last million sectors...if you're sure you have no viruses, trojans, rootkits, or other malware)of the root drive and then format/partition.Refer to the Device Manager for the HDD manufacturer's information, model number, and so on.Some HDD manufacturers provide software for both erasing and formatting their drives(Western Digital and Seagate do for sure). Almost all at least have erasing software. Might need to find another to format, although you could use the format/partiioning optionin the Windows 7 setup.GA P35 DQ6 Mb, Intel Wolfdale 8600 3.33Ghz C2D CPU., 4x2Gb Mushkin DDR2 1066 PC2 8500 Ascents Memory Mods., 4-Western Digital Caviar SATA(2) HDD's (internal), 1 EIDE-USB External; Hauppauge PVR 1600 TV tuner, Dual Monitor: (1) Standard up top, (1) WideScreen below; Altec Lansign Speakers...

Sorry about the errors in my answer. The answer to the first is no I have not been able to download anything using W7. I use the same routewr for my main PC which is running XP Pro. and have no problems at all.The 2nd is direct from the Microsoft (uk) site and i followed the instructions to the letter. The reason i said i did a clean install was because i reformatted the drive, using the install disc. I may havegot the terminology wrong on that then.
