Download problem Windows7 Explorer9 and Firefox
I am trying to download a patch update (.exe) for Cubase from the Steinberg website using a PC with Windows7 64 bit and Explorer 9. The downloaded file is flagged by Explorer as unsafe. When I open the file it states that the certificate is invalid, and when running the .exe file there are numerous CRC reports with the statement that the files is corrupt please download again. Further attempts end in the same results. I contacted Steinberg, they checked their file and assured me the problem lies with my machine. I have had the file and download process checked and verified by a third party who has assured me there is no issue with it. I attempted the download from another machine on my network with a WindowsXP and Explorer 8 implementation. The file downloaded OK and when transferred to the WIndows 7 machine, ran perfectly. The file on Steinberg's site is therefore clean and functional. I installed Firefox on this Windows 7 machine and downloaded the file again. Firefox did not flag any problems with the download, but when I ran the file I had the same certification warnings and CRC problems as before. The problem is therefore clearly associated with this machine and the implementation of Windows7. This is a new problem to this machine and has not occurred before. I have carried out multiple downloads from the Steinberg site without issue. In addition to the above I have attempted download with: 1. Explorer with no Add Ons 2. Download and Install in Clean Boot using MSCONFIG. Neither were successful. Any help gratefully received.

Have you tried installing the certificate from that web site? Usually in the address bar on the very right there will be certificate error and if you click on in and install the certificate then you should be fine.

Hi, When you get CRC error, it indicates that the data in your download file has damaged. This issue may be caused by your Network Card or transfer issue. So my suggestions are: Try to download some files from other websites. If the issue persist, please change to a second network card for check. If the issue wont happen, try Branos suggestion. Spencer TechNet Community Support Hi guys. Thanks for the replies. I have tried installing the certificate. No effect. I understand that the download is corrupt but not why. I can download other files from the same site (and other sites) without issue but only up to about 20 MB in size. Beyond that downloaded files from any source give certificate errors and CRC checks. The network card is not at fault because I can pull large files over my network without issue and internet connectivity is not a problem. I have checked, uninstalled and updated the network card drivers just to be sure. Any further thoughts please?Regards, Pete

Are you using 32-bit or 64-bit IE9? I would suggest trying the other one than you have been currently using. If using the other version of IE doesn't work then I would suggest saving the .exe to your computer and then installing it from there instead of from the Steinberg website. Thanks for the response. I have tried as you advised. The command responses confirmed actions in the CMD prompt, but no success I'm afraid. Larger files still corrupt, smaller OK. All help welcome. This appears illogical to me. Regards, PeteRegards, Pete

As I said in the original problem statement, I am currently running Firefox and still having the problem. The problem thus appears browser independent. I am saving the files to the Desktop and running from there. I have also saved to Disc and run from there. Same problem. I have not attempted an install from Steinberg site as that is not an option. Thanks for your support.Regards, Pete

Is your version of IE9 32-bit or 64-bit? Open IE9 and click on Help, then click on About. Are you right clicking on the .exe and selecting the option to "run it as an administrator" because I've seen weird errors during install on WIN7 boxes that don't run correctly if you don't? Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. All 3 browsers have the same issues. I have tried to install the exe's both as normal user and Admin. No difference. This has not been an issue in the past and it has not been necessary to install Steinberg (or other software) under admin, and I have never had or seen that kind of issue. This issue appears to be related to download file size with larger files being flagged as being unsafe downloads (on IE9), having invalid certificates, and exhibiting CRC issues. Smaller files (< 20 MB approx) do not have these symptoms.Regards, Pete
