Download Button on Download Screen Not Starting Download
I am at the download screen. I clicked on the Download Now button, but nothing happens. I've waited about an hour for just that screen to come up and I know it's going to take forever to download Windows 7, so if anyone knows what do, please let me know. I didn't know where to find it on MSDN either, so if someone thinks that's better and can provide a link, that'd be awesome, too.

Is your information bar asking you to confirm the download?

You need to install the download manager addon. It pops up as soon as you click on the download button. Look at the information bar.

Could you elaborate as to why IE is the only option? Also, is the download manager addon Microsoft Silverlight? And if so, would someone elaborate as to why that is required for the install button to work? I fail to understand how what normally is accomplished in basic HTML requires so many plugins and so specific a browser. (By the way, I'm on Firefox and I'm not exactly going to install Silverlight to make this beta happen. I know I'll sound closed-minded in that sense, but there's only so far I'm willing to go in order to try this out)

In order to use microsoft's 'download manager' you must use Internet explorer. I have found it does not work with Firefox. Microsoft runs an active X control you must install, which the Download manager is activated.

This rather important piece of information is completely absent from the webpage!

The Akamai Download Manager only works with IE. It will give you a yellow bar on top of your IE screen and you should click that after appearing after clicking the download link.

I already know that it requires Internet Explorer. Why? There's absolutely NO reason why one can't code a download link that works with Firefox. I did finally get it working, though - sadly with IE. Although - I really didn't like Windows 7 all that much, so it was off in about 10 minutes.Guys, I'd really love it if this stuff were posted using standards-compliant webpages - it would make things SO much easier. There's no reason why you should ever require (or even request) a plugin for such a simple task. Not that it matters now anyways - the download has been removed. Firefox really isn't that bad - show us some love, okay?(By the way - if you're wondering why I'm replying so late, I just now got notifications that someone replied to the thread)

Win 7 is Microsofts baby. I guess they figure they can let people have the beta any way they want to. I use FF as my main/only browser but I didn't whine a bit in having to use IE to get the beta. Good lord, nobody twisted your arm to try it. Geez! Kubuntu Intrepid(64bit) booting Win7(32bit), Vista(32bit), and Suse 11.1(64bit) 4 gigs ram, 2.13 dual core, 500 gig hdd, Nvidia 8500GT

This is why I hate communicating by text only - meanings tend to get lost along the way. No - I *wanted* to try the beta. Nobody's twisting my arm or anything... but I'm certain to keep twisting Microsoft's arm (futile - I know) in hopes that they'll adopt standards-compliant coding practices. Browser interoperability is a *great* thing, and it saddens me that Microsoft, with all their talent, can't quite meet that goal.
