Hello gidi,
Please try:
pressing the Start orb in the lower left corner of your screen type "appwiz.cpl" (without the quotemarks) and press [ENTER] click "View installed updates" select "Windows Internet Explorer 9" in the category 'Microsoft Windows' and press 'Uninstall' in the top of the 'Installed updates'-box.
reboot your computer
This should do the trick, and I hope I could help you out.
With kind regards,
Laurenz

How to downgrade from Internet Explorer 9 to Internet Explorer 8 in Windows 7
Downgrading Internet Explorer from 9 to 8 is a feature “hidden” from view in Windows 7. Since there isn’t a download available for Internet Explorer 8 in Windows 7, the only way to revert back is through the “View Installed
Updates” menu inside Control Panel -> Programs.
I had to revert back to IE8 since we still have a number of users with Windows XP (which only runs in IE8)
You can remove IE9 and install IE8 using the following steps.
1. Close all programs.
2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
3. Click Uninstall a Program under the Programs category
4. In the Tasks pane, click View installed updates.
5. In the list of installed updates, double-click Windows Internet Explorer 9.
Once Internet Explorer 9 has been uninstalled from your system, the computer will require a reboot. After rebooting, your computer should now revert back to Internet Explorer 8.
To disable IE8 or IE9 in Windows 7, go to Control Panel -> Programs. Click on the “Turn on Windows Features on or off” link. Uncheck Internet Explorer 9 (or Internet Explorer 8). The system will then act as if Internet Explorer is
no longer installed. You can re-enable it via a simple checkbox.

Hello again gidi,
Please check if Internet Explorer 8 is enabled by:
pressing the Start-orb in the lower left corner of your screen typing "Turn Windows features on or off" and waiting for the list to be populated
find an entry called 'Internet Explorer 8' and check if the checkbox is selected
if it was not selected press "OK" and when it prompts you to restart your computer press "Restart now".
if it was already selected press "Cancel", press the Start-orb in the lower left corner of your screen and type "Internet Explorer" (when it shows the program Internet Explorer it would be wise to pin it to the taskbar or place it on your desktop)
I hope this solved your problem.
With kind regards,
Laurenz

I want to get rid of IE9 too, but when I perform the "Turn Windows features on or off" there is no entry for "Internet Explorer 8", but there is one for Internet Explorer 9. Any further advice ?

Don't go to the Turn Windows features on or off, but uninstall Windows Internet Explorer using the steps above.

Hi,
This process does not need any special technical knowledge.
Just simple steps can make it to downgrade Windows Internet Explorer 9 to its previous versions.
One method is by just installing any previous versions like IE 8 and IE 7 over the installed IE 9 version.
Another possibility is through directly uninstalling the program using the Uninstall Windows Internet Explorer file present in the folder where Windows Internet Explorer is installed.
Another method to downgrade is to uninstall the IE 9 version using Add or Remove Programs option from control panel.

Hope this information helps you.

Unfortunately, NONE of these methods work if IE9 was installed at the factory. We recently purchased some Dell Optiplex 790s with 64-bit Windows 7 pro, and IE 9 was included as part of the Windows install. So, there's no IE 9 to uninstall. You can't download
IE 8 for Windows 7 (only for XP and Vista) from here:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/downloads/ie-8
(and, naturally the Vista version doesn't install on Win7)
This wouldn't be a problem, except that IE9 doesn't work properly with the ADT payroll site that we use, as well as some other commercial sites which are necessary to our business.
So, how about an alternative that actually works?tom

I have exactly the same problem. We are using OpenText CMS and it only works using IE8. No other browsers do the job, including IE9.
The windows disk already includes SP1 and IE9 and hence I can't downgrade to IE8.
How do I get IE8? I don't want to downgrade to windows XP or vista only to use IE8. Anyone has a solution?Andry

Seeing as Microsoft doesn't want us to be able to put the much-better IE8 on our new computers that came with IE9, just do the smart thing and load Firefox. It's faster and more reliable anyway. Talk about ego... not even giving the option to download
8 for Windows 7!!!
There are a LOT of websites that will just not work with IE9!

Have you tired using Compatibility mode?

Compatability mode?
I am desperate trying to figure out how to get IE8 working due to our internal applications. The JS engine in IE9 is miss behaving and IE8 compatibility makes it worst!

I suggest that you repost your problem in your OWN new thread - with considerably more detail - if you want a sensible response.Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi |

Tom,
I haven't found a system where I couldn't downgrade IE9 to 8, but based on your situation, an alternative might be to install XP Mode (a virtual PC). XP Mode includes a fully functional Windows XP desktop and running IE6. You should be able to upgrade that
browser to IE8. With XP Mode's published applications, you can launch IE8 as an application on your Windows 7 desktop without first launching the XP desktop. It's a lot more work than just downgrading IE9 on the host OS (so I'd recommend you pursue all available
options there first), but it will actually allow you to run multiple instances/versions of IE on the same machine.
More info on XP Mode
here.
I hope that's helpful. Thanks!
