I know it is of no help to you, but it works perfectly well for me in Windows 8.1.

If you go to C:\Program Files (x86)\DOSBox-0.74, run the reset batch file as you may have an option set incorrectly in the conf file in C:\Users\User name\AppData\Local\DOSBox.

If the reset doesnt resolve it, run the uninstall from the same location and download/install it again.

Thanks for the help. But when i run the reset batch file same thing happens, it opens for a split second and gets closed.

Reinstalled it but the problem persists.

i have downloaded other files like turbo c++ one step installation file by two different providers which surely requires the dosbox features. That too gets installed but same problem occurs.

so what to do, need exact solution, please. :(

Hi  Vishnu,

I want to know if there is any other anti-virus software installed on your computer, I would suggest to remove it from your computer for temporary test.

Besides, try to allow the program to communicate through Windows Firewall in this way:

Open Windows Firewall by inputing firewall In the search box, and then click Windows Firewall.

In the left pane, click Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall.

Click Change settings.

Select the check box next to the program you want to allow, select the network locations you want to allow communication on, and then click OK.

You can also follow this video (apply for Windows 8.1) for details:

Besides, try running the program with an administrator account to see the result.

Wade's suggestion above is a very good one to check.  I have heard Avast, for example, can interfere with DOSbox.

Also, do you have Hyper-V enabled on your Windows setup?  I have heard more than one virtualization solution cannot coexist.

Thank you for help.

i have McAfee antivirus which is preinstalled in dell laptops. So i can't delete that as i don't have installation files but i turned it off then installed it again but nothing happens, problem persists.

Also i have allowed the dosbox to communicate through Windows Firewall in the same way you described. But nothing happens bro, it gets closed again in a split second.

Also i m using the administator's account only.

I really don't know, I haven't ever run into that problem,   I just wanted to make sure you didn't worry about Hyper-V if it was installed.   Perhaps you could ask in the DOSBox forums, maybe someone there has seen the problem.   http://www.vogons.org/viewforum.php?f=53

Dosbox isn't a virtualization solution, it's an emulator and doesn't use hardware VT, so Hyper-V shouldn't interfere with it.

Thank you for that clarification, Bob!

Thank you all for the possible helps.

Finally i found the solution although it is unbelievable.

When i run dosbox without plugging in my mouse it crashes as soon as it opens and when i run the dosbox after plugging my mouse it works like charm. I don't know the exact problem and solution but i found this temporary solution.

Anyone can explain this..??

Ive just looked at the configuration file which does actually have two references to the mouse, but only autolock=true and sensitivity=100.

I blame the politicians, who are most proficient at messing things up! Seriously though, Im glad you found the cu

Hi Vishnu,

It was quite a foolish solution to such an annoying problem. It actually worked!...finally.

Thank you
