We have a domain environment that experiences extremely long login times only when running windows 8/8.1
- Machines running 7 have the exact same set of GPO's and they login almost instantly.
- 8/8.1 machines that are removed from the domain log in instantly.
- DNS is pointing at the correct servers.
- Group Policy event logs shows no errors.
- Login time is variable. Some days it does not happen at all, some days it takes 10-20 minutes.
- Removing the network cable seems to speed up the login times.
- All 8/8.1 machines are running latest updates
- Slow link is NOT detected. The GPO event logs specifically state that a slow link is not detected, so it will behave normally. As I understand it, this specific setting has been known to cause GPO issues similar to this.
- All DC's are online at the time of these tests, and all are responding to pings.
- Domain joined computers that are logged into "off network" but with internet access login almost instantly.
I can provide any logs or information that you need. I have been trying to go through and narrow it down to a single script by removing chunks of GPO's at a time to our test group, but the changes that this causes are variable and difficult to reproduce. For instance, at one time, I was sure the cause was one of our 2 item level targeting scripts, related to mapping a dfs namespace. However the next day, my same test was unable to reproduce the symptoms.
I appreciate any help that can be provided, thanks.
