Domain joined computer cannot login to domain

Windows 8 "standard" PC purchased
Bought and applied the Pro Pack, says it was successful

Joined the domain successfully, I see the computer name in Active Directory and it is reporting the correct OS there (only 8.1 computer in the domain).

Local workstation reporting it is part of the domain in system properties and I see the domain admins in the local computer group Administrators.

Reboot after domain join and try to login, I click other user to login to a domain account (it doesn't show the domain name like it normally should). So I attempt to login with a domain account specifying the domain two different ways. Shepherd\username and username@shepherd****.local, both report that I have to login with my email address.

Log back in as a local admin, removed the computer from the domain, rebooted

Rejoined the domain "successfully"

Still exhibiting the behavior of not accepting a domain login

Obviously, DNS servers are working as I was able to join the domain. And I have verified that they are referencing our internal AD DNS.

I have tried logging on with different domain accounts

Hi Mind IT,

Have you logon this machine with a Microsoft Account ?

Have you configured the sign-in options or how many sign-in options do you get ?
If you have configured the sign-in options ,please select other sign-in options to have a check .

Apart from this ,just as the link posted by T.Kujala said ,we can configure the group policy to block the Microsoft Account to have a check .
Here is a link for reference of blocking microsoft account .

Ultimately had to rebuild the machine and reapply the pro pack. Something must have gotten hosed in the original upgrade process.
