Domain credentials not remembered
Hello, we cannot log in on a domain notebook as soon as it is disconnected from the network. I thought the credentials are cached by default but it does not seem to work. I have checked the group policy settings and it looks okay. Are there any other things which do influence this? (using roaming profiles) Thanks, Jan

Jan, Can you provide use the exact error message? What is the vallue of the following registery key ? HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Winlogon\ ValueName: CachedLogonsCount Data Type: REG_SZ Also if you want to have some more background info about chased credentinals you can read this KB. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/172931/ And normaly having a roaming profile has no impact on cached credentinals. because they are stored in the HKLM\Security hive. And this is not roamed with a user profile. This stays on the machine. Kind Regards DFTIM me - TWiTTer: @DFTER

Hi Jan, Can you post the error message when trying to login on the machine without network? To troubleshoot the issue, please try the following steps. 1. Temporarily remove all the security software (firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc.) on the Windows 7 machine and check if it works. 2. Please refer to the following Knowledge Base and try the solution in it: Error message when you try to log on to a Windows Server 2008-based RODC: "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949048 3. Assure the machine is already activated. Hope this helps. Thanks. Novak

Hello guys, thanks for replies. DFT, the value is 10. Novak, the message indeed is "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request", but we have only single DC controller (2008 R2), so it is not RODC. However, the machine is not activated yet. Does this prevent the credentials to be cached? Jan

Hi Jan, To answer your question, the symptom also can occur if the Windows 7 machine is not activated. In last week, I encountered the same symptom and it was resolved after activating the system. You can activate the system for a test. Regards, Novak
