Domain User of Windows Vista cannot access an external SMB Network Drive
One of our employees needs to connect to a password-protected folder on an external network drive from her Vista workstation. Usually it's just a simple user/pwd combo she enters, and Windows will save the information and let her into that drive. Now, however, we get this error:"drive_name" is not set up to establish a connection on port "File and printer sharing (SMB)" with this computer. The catch here is that she used to be able to see it, any other user on this Windows Vista machine can see it, and she can see it on any other Windows Vista machine on the domain. We had saved this as a saved Network Location, but we removed it and still get the error. I've enabled everything I can think of, given her temporary admin privileges on that computer, no dice.

Hi, Thank you for posting here. Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following: 1. Do you have the user name and password stored on the client for accessing the remote file server? If yes, please check how it works if you clear them: 1) Click Control Panel, click User Accounts, and then click User Accounts. 2) In the left pane, click Manage your network passwords. 3) Remove all users listed in it. Click OK. 2. Double check whether File and printer sharing" is enabled on both clients and the server. 3. Do you recently change the firewall settings and network settings before the issue occurs? If so, please restore the settings to the time that the issue didn't occur and see how it works. You may also try System Restore. 4. Check whether other clients of this network (domain) can access the file share. Hope this helps. Thanks!
