Does my PC think it has more USB's than it's actually got ??
I have this pop-up advisory which tells me that my USB device can run faster on a 2.0 connection and to click a box showing a list of available ports. My PC only has 4 physical ports and some time ago I experimented with a 4-way port extension (2.0 type) which I plugged into one of my 4 existing ports giving me what I thought should be 4 2.0 ports and 3 remaining 1.0 ports.OK so then I had a problem with my new extension which to be honest was not working for me the way I had hoped and think I moved it once to a different port but then it just stopped working and I never got it fixed so never used it again. I think it blew while still connected and now I am convinced that this is a problem because of the property details of my on-board ports as shown see these links :-http://i812.photobucket.com/albums/zz48/Vanguard_01/2009-10-04_094925.pnghttp://i812.photobucket.com/albums/zz48/Vanguard_01/2009-10-04_095635.pngThey show that there are ports available but I have hardware plugged into all 4 (Maxtor storage, Belkin wireless USB, Splitter device for device to 2 computers - for my mouse and an External DVD drive.I guess my question is, can this and does this need to be corrected?Thanks.1 person needs an answerI do too

Hello Vanguard_1,Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers Community.Since this is not causing you an issue, it is not required for you to remove. However, removing it is quite simple: · Click Start > right-click My Computer > click Manage · Left pane click Device Manager > locate the hub > right-click uninstall Hope this helpsChris.H Microsoft Answers Support Engineer Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.

This is my point Chris, I do not know if it is a problem but I can see if my performance changes after sorting it out.I can tell you however that I can uninstall all of them as per the steps you tell me but when I use either of the ports at the front of my PC the USB 2.0 Hub is reinstated on the list again. It's as though the computer has a sense that the 2.0 Hub is still there which means it should be transferring data faster than a normal hub. Surely this must have some effect on the processor since the data is not moving as fast? It is also confusing trying to find which USB is handling which device unless of course I go through them all. What I need is to show 2 USB Hubs, 2 on the mother board, 2 on the machine front and none of them are USB 2.0 capability. Why does this list keep setting up the same despite my efforts to uninstall them all and reinstate 1 at a time by plugging in any USB device? I know that I have read in newsgroups that XP has problems with USB uninstalling, is there anything in the registry causing this?Regards,Vanguard_1
