Does Windows 7 64 bit have a Speech Recognition Engine And Will It Work With 32bit Programs ?
I purchased a module for my Softplan CAD Type Program that allows me to speak commands to it. I currently run Windows XP Pro x64bit and the SAPI5 speech engine will not recognize the x64bit operating system. After working with Tech Support for my product I figured maybe a switch to Windows 7 64bit might solve the problem. However the Softplan TEch Support people aren't so sure that if Windows 7 64bit has a speech engine whether the 32bit Softplan could use it ? But I also hear about XP Mode in Windows 7 - so am looking for some direction on the likelyhood of Windows 7 64 bit being able to work with 32bit Softplan's talk module ?

Hi,Yes, windows 7 has its build-in Speech Recognition Engine. However, as for as I know it will only work on basic system actions, like "Start", "Notepad".... YourSoftplan CAD program seems more complex. You can download the Windows 7 Enterprise 90-day Trial choose 64 bit version to test it. Also try the windows xp mode from windows 7 64 bit to check the result.

If it doesn't currently work with XP 64bit, then I don't see how its going to work in Windows 7 64bit even if you use XP compatibility mode. You need to know why it currently doesn't work with XP 64bit.MCSE, MCSA, MCDST

Hi,Check this out:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/32-bit-and-64-bit-Windows-frequently-asked-questionsIn the Can I run 32-bit programs on a 64-bit computer? section, it indicated: Most programs designed for a computer running a 32-bit version of Windows will work on a computer running 64-bit versions of Windows. Notable exceptions are many antivirus programs, and some hardware drivers. If the Speech Recomgnition Engine count too much on the Speech recognition devcie, it may not work on 64 bit operation system, no matter it is windows xp or windows 7. However, as windows 7 is far more developed on the hardware side compared with windows xp, you had better download the Windows 7 Enterprise 90-day Trial to test. Meanwhile, windows 7 has a 32 bit XP mode, you can also try your SAPI5 speech enginein this mode.

I am having trouble getting the Speech recognition software to recognize or even go into my Yahoo email program so I can dictate emails. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
