Does Bitlocker encrypt Windows backups?
Id like to use bitlocker on a data volume (partition) on my laptop. If I encrypt my data volume with bitlocker, will my windows backup (which goes to a USB drive) be encrypted? I think the answer is "no" but I want to know before I turn on bitlocker. Im sure this info is posted someplace, but I cant seem to find it. Thanks. me

Thanks for the link. Sorry, it does not answer my question, though. I'm hoping to back up to a non-encrypted volume which I keep in a secure location.me

The backup files are not encrypted. The only way is to have your backups stored on an encrypted drive. Or use a third party backup tool.

Hello, The backup data on the USB drive will not be encrypted if we only encrypt the data partition on the local hard drive. If you would like to encrypt the USB drive, we need use another feature: "Bitlocker to Go". For more information about Bitlocker, please refer to the link below: BitLocker Drive Encryption Overview Encrypt Removable USB Drives with BitLocker To Go Thanks, Novak

I had bad experience with encrypted drive/directory in external usb drive back in XP. My encrypted directory/drive in external usb drive was no longer recognized once I reinstalled my windows in my computer. I lost all my data. Does Bitlocker have the same problem on external usb drive if one day I reinstall my Windows 7? Thanks.
