Do Windows Explorer add-ons run in a separate process?
Hi. Last night I had a problem that I resolved successfully: A thumbnail generator caused explorer.exe in my computer to crash when reaching a certain file. But I am surprised: You see, I think I have previously read somewhere that, starting with Windows Vista, Explorer.exe's add-ons run in a separate process; If they cause crash, only the add-on process crashes, not the Explorer.exe. However, after the last night's incident, I'm no longer sure that my memory is right. So, do Windows Explorer add-ons run in a separate process? Or is it only true for Windows Vista? Or is it not true at all? P.S.: Yes, I did search the Internet too, but all I get is page after pages of irrelevant results for Internet Explorer and crashes of Generic Host Process for Windows Services. The greatest moment of everyone's life is the moment of positive thinking.

You can only activate the option to get a new Explorer.exe for the filemanager so that an Explorer crash doesn't kill the desktop, too."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/
