Do NOT show hidden drives but DO show hidden files/folders
I am aware that in the "Folder Options" you set either "don't show hidden files/folders/drives" or "show hidden files/folders/drives". What I want to know is can I hide the drives while still showing the files/folders? Possibly through some registry tweak or something? Thanks!-Nick-

Nick, Do you intend on keeping the same functionality of Hidden Drives such that they become unhidden when media is inserted? Or would you like to keep specific drives hidden permanently?- RonSum

Nick I haven’t tried it, but what is the result of changing ‘Show drive letters’ in Folder Options > View Tab?

@BurrWalnut, Unticking 'Show Drive Letters' just hides the drive letters. @IT wHo'e, you are correct. I'm trying to hide the media card reader drives so they dont show up when they are empty but I can still access other hidden files and folders. -Nick-

If you're just trying to hide empty drives, see this. Jerry

If you're just trying to hide empty drives, see this. Jerry Thanks but did you actually read my post? As far as I can tell that link still doesn't allow me to hide ONLY the drives while still allowing hidden files/folders to be viewed.-Nick-

Yes, I read your post. If you set the show hidden files... radio button and check hide empty drives, you should get what you want. Empty card Readers and DVD drives don't show in Windows Explorer on my PC while I still see hidden files and folders on the other drives. Jerry

My apologies then, on my system (Win7 Pro x64) if I check "show hidden files, folders, drives", and check "hide empty drives in the Computer folder" then the hidden drives still show up (although they are slightly faded like hidden files/folders are).-Nick-

Try unhiding the drive(s) and leaving the other settings alone. I have Win 7 Ultimate and neither an empty DVD drive or any empty card readers show in Windows Explorer. Jerry

If I unhide them then they show up no matter what the "Hidden files and folders" option is set to. My empty DVD drives always show up. I have this same behaviour on all my W7 PCs, sounds like you've managed to do something or install something that hides them because I'm pretty sure that isn't the default behaviour!-Nick-

you can't hide anything with standard functions. if you really want to do that - use FS specific things. thats all about this 'flame'

Did you check "Hide empty drives in the Computer folder" after you unhid the drive? Jerry
