Displaying Windows 7 on an Analog TV
I'm trying to set up Windows 7 as an HTPC and I'm using an Nvidia 7300 video card. I am connecting my TV using a s-video converter to Composite (I think that is what it is called, its only 1 yellow cord for the video). I can see the screen on my TV but it has a really bad flicker. I think it might be the refresh rate but Windows 7 won't allow me to change it from 25 Hz. I was able to use MythTV and XP Pro on the TV without the flicker problem. I would really like to set up an HTPC but I couldn't get MythTV to work and I don't have XP media center. Anyhelp will be nice, please let me know if you need any more information.

Cruton - Sounds like it might be a driver issue. Do you have the latest driver installed? Try the latest beta driver available hereand see if it fixes the problem.

Thanks for the tip Wolfie, I upgraded the drivers to 185, however the screen flicker is still happening. Is there a way to upgrade the drivers for 'generic non-PNP CRT monitor' that is what windows is saying my TV is.

Windows is actually showing the TV as "generic non-pnp monitor." It doesn't have CRT in there. I've tried working with the Nvidia control panel but I couldn't get that to work either.

Cruton502,When you are in the 'screen resolution' window, click the 'advanced settings' link. When that window opens, click on the 'monitor' tab. What screen refresh rates are there for you to choose from. If you can, match it to your TV's refresh rate. If not, uncheck the checkbox that says 'Hide modes this monitor cannot display' and then see if the proper refresh rate is there for you to choose.Let us know...

Cruton - The only way to upgrade the "generic non-PNP CRT montior" thing for the TV would be to install a driver for the TV. You'd have to check with the TV's manufacturer to see if they have such a critter. Otherwise - you're pretty much out of luck on that front.

Thanks for the help Wolfie, however using XP the TV would work just fine without the install of Analog TV drivers (I don't even think they exist). I honestly think this is a bug with the Windows 7 settings. When working with the display setting for the TV, Windows 7 will not allow me to change the refresh rate from anything other than 25 Hz which it looks like is causing the flicker problem.

Cruton502, Did you try what I said above?

Sorry dwolters, yes I tried. The refresh rate is set at 25 hz and the check box for 'hide modes this monitor cannot display' is grayed out. It would be awesome if I could change that setting because I believe that to be the problem.

Yes,and to name3, there'spowerstrip and Riva tuner and Direct refresh. However I have no idea of how they work at all, let alone in Windows 7.
