Our desktop PC has a large shadow on the right hand side of each word, on the desktop and in any other application as well. How do I get rid of it?  And how do I prevent it from happening again?

you've posted your question into a specific software forum (MDOP-DaRT) which unfortunately isn't well-travelled, and so unlikely to get you much help.

You could also consider contacting your computer manufacturer for support, since it could be a hardware issue.

Or, if you have a friend with a compatible display monitor, perhaps borrow theirs, to see if the problem is confined to your display monitor.

Open Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System\Advanced System Settings\Advance\Settings under Performance:

Under the Visual Effects tab scroll down to Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop and uncheck the box against it.Click OK/Apply.

If the above doesn't help:

Update your Graphic card driver.Visit the website of the graphic card manufacturer to download and install the latest compatible driver.

If the above doesn't help then:
