Disk performance drops when using Microsoft Deployment Tools

Hi

So using the same iso if I mount a virtual disk through the drac (dell 7910) and install win 8.1 i get a disk read of about 250MB/s using winsat no matter how many times i reboot it stays around 250MB/s however if i use the same iso and convert it into a wim file using MDT then use the default client task sequence to deploy the disk read time is around 150MB/s. If I remove all the post deployment options in the task sequence it will start at 250MB/s until you reboot at which point its back down to 150MB/s. What gives?

Hi phyvtab,

As far as I know, the whole process will include the steps to check the configurations in the task sequence if we install with the MDT tool. Comparatively installing from a native virtual disk or removing the options in the task sequence ,there is not a such a process. This may explain the disk performance issue .

We can try to compare the  BDD.log to find the differences between the two processes. and we may find some useful information here to explain the issue .
To check the logs ,here is a link for reference :

For the MDT issue ,we also can try to ask for help from our MDT Forum.

Thanks I'll check the BDD.log but I suspect I wont find anything as MDT feels the deployment was a success(which it technically is). I've deployed hundreds of machines and we never would have noticed a thing if I had not done a manual install on one and happen to get a winsat on it. As far as we can tell the drivers are identical. We have not done a diff of the regkeys yet.

Is there a particular string I should be looking for? The MDT log shows no errors

<![LOG[Logs contained 0 errors and 0 warnings.]LOG]!><time="16:43:48.000+000" date="04-29-2015" component="LTICleanup" context="" type="1" thread="" file="LTICleanup">

Hi phyvtab,

We can try to look for the key words "task sequence".

"If I remove all the post deployment options in the task sequence it will start at 250MB/s until you reboot at which point its back down to 150MB/s. "

Comparing the different logs between the two logs .What is going on in the same process between the two logs.I hope we will find some usful information here.

Best regards

It looks like it might be due to all my MDT drivers residing in the same bucket. Thanks for your assistance!
