Disk management
I connected a hdd from a avtech 760a dvr to retrieve the data off the drive and when I opened disk management it said it needed to initialize the drive. I clicked ok and then it asked what kind of boot table does this hdd use and presented the two choices of GPT or MBR. I chose MBR and then after that the hdd shows up in disk management as un-allocated space. I did not format the disk cause i know there is data on there. I want to know if there is away to undo the changes the initialization did and remove the MBR placed on the hdd bringing it back to state it was in before I connected it to the computer. I can no longer access the information when I installed it back into the dvr because Windows has placed the MBR on the hdd. Since I didn't format the drive the information on there should still be intact if only I can undo the initialization and the creation of the MBR on the drive. I'm not sure of what type of file system the dvr uses, but I think my problem would be solved if I can take back those two steps. I am also gonna give feed back that microsoft should include an option like that in it's disk management utility.Any suggestions and help would really be appreciated. Thank Youin advanced.

HiI think the system that this dvr runs on is linux based but i am not sure of this. I dont know why you have posted here unless you have connected the drive to a windows 7 machine and if that is the case i think there is no way to repair it using windows. I suspect you need to use a linux machine to do it. If it is linux based or freeBSD or similar I would not expect Microsoft to include any options for it in its disc management utility. But do not despair there is a utility available free called the ultimate boot cd which has the facillity to read different formats. You may be able to recover/repair your drive with this.malc

Thank you for your response. Yes, I connected it to my PC running Windows 7. I know Microsoft wouldn't include options for it to beshow up as a drive in (blank) formatin its Disk Management utility. I feel they should include options to undo any changes made using the Disk Management utility. Such as to take back what it does during the initialization and creating the MBR for the drive.
