Disk defragmenter analyzes but the gives error message
Windows XP, SP3. System running slowly so I tried to defrag. It analyzed then gave me the error message: "Defragmentation of (C:) has been aborted due to inconsistencies that were detected in the file system. Please run CHKDSK or SCANDISK on (C:) to repair tese inconsistencies then run Disk Defragmenter again."I ran chkdsk but it said it was read only and could not repair. I could not get scandisk to run at all. Error message said it could not find scandisk. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.1 person needs an answerI do too

Well, I seem to have fixed it myself!I started the computer in safe mode and tried to run chkdsk. It wouldn't run, so I ran chkdsk /r, reboot into safe mode, then logged on as an administrator. This time, chkdsk ran. Took about 2 hours, but this time it was not in read-only mode and fixed some corrupt files. It rebooted and now I'm running disk defrag. It analyzed and then went to the defragging. I'm going to let it work overnight because it's pushing 1 a.m. here. So I hope that when I get out of bed my machine is all defragged.
