When I try to defrag my hard drive a message comes up saying Original title:Defragmenting my hard drive" Disc defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume HP_Pavillion (C;). Please run Chkdsk /f I have no knowledge of this schedule, or how to run it, but I need to remove this message before it will let me do a defrag, any ideas?Ideas:Programs you are having problems with Error messages Recent changes you made to your computer What you have already tried to fix the problem

Hi Alex Gordon, As LemP suggested restart the computer and check to see if chkdsk runs, if it doesn’t, manually run chkdsk and then try to run Disc defragmenter Step 1: Run Check disk to fix any bad sectors on the hard drive.a. Press and hold (Windows key and R ) to pull up > Run > type in cmd and hit enterb. At the command prompt type chkdsk /f and then press enter.
