Disappearing programs, msiinstaller event log seems to be related

Hi there!

My windows 8.1 laptop is acting up. It seems to dislike certain programs. It uninstalled Command and Conquer Zero Hour and I have found the corresponding event log (Msiinstaller event id 1035):

"Windows Installer reconfigured the product. Product Name: Command and ConquerTM Generals Zero Hour. Product Version: 1.00.0000. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Electronic Arts. Reconfiguration success or error status: 0."

This resulted in the deletion of the software, although it still shows up in the add/remove programs list. Also, windows has created a system restore point that correlates with the event. Oddly enough, it seems, although I'm not 100% certain that it is rolling back to that restore point since it also deleted a couple of programs installed afterwards..

On the other hand windows also eradicated the steam client and a couple of other progs... I have the latest BitDefender and Malewarebytes installed, no viruses. It is an Alienware 15 laptop, packed with DELL bloatware, I am also suspicious of their recovery software as well, although that should not have any functionality that could do this..

Any ideas?

Thanks..

Hi deuscreator,

Have you verified whether this program is compatible with Windows 8.1?
I found that " Command and Conquer Zero Hour" seems to be an old game. I am afraid it is not compatible with Windows 8.1 machine.
According to your description, it seems that installing this program has corrupted the machine.
We could perform a system restore to recover the machine to a previous normal point.
Considering this issue is related to the specific program, it is recommended to ask for help from the program vendor to confirm its compatibility with Windows 8.1.
