Disable typed emoticons
Is there a way to have Lync not convert my typing into emoticons for both sides of the conversation?  If I disable emoticons under Options, I don't see the emoticons but the person seeing my message sees the emoticons.  I want my message to be sent and read without any unwanted modifications.

Hello Jim,

You cannot disable both sides emoticons. you need manually disable in Option tab (uncheck 'Show emoticons in IM).

Other way is to manage the Emoticons policy via Lync Management Shell. however this will disable for all users.

Use this propertices: DisableEmoticons, DisableHtmlIm, and DisableRTFIm are all set to True.

Cmdlet:

Set-CsClientPolicy -Identity "<policyname>" -DisableEmoticons $True -DisableHtmlIm

Hi,

The person still can see the emoticons if s/he did not disable emotioncs. Therefore, the workaround of the issue is to disable it for all users through lync management shell as Balu said.
