Disable caching on TMG 2010

Hi

We have 5 TMG 2010 servers in an array, all Win 2008 SP1 R2.

We would like to test disabling caching on one of the servers.  Can someone please provide details on how best to do this on one individual server and not on all array members?

I would also like to know if there's any reason why caching should not be disabled on TMG 2010?

I'm aware of how to delete the caching file and how to disable caching of specific websites but we want to disable chaching completely for testing purpose.

Please let me know if you require any more details.

hope for some replies soon.

I would like to add that on our TMG servers we have 2 rules on Cache Settings dialgue box:

1) Microsoft Update Cache Rule

2) Default Rule

For rule 1 we have a Disable button but that Disable button is greyed out for the rule 2. Maybe because it's the default rule which can't be disabled.

If you go to web cache settings >cache driver you will see a list o your nodes with their drives. There you can set space which should be reserved for caching. Try to set it to 0 on a node you need.

Thanks for your reply Vasily.

Will that really work, setting to 0?

Are there any side effects by doing that or by even disabling caching on proxy servers (other than the obvious that there will be nothing in cache).

Caching improves performance. If your servers are "strong" enough from the performance perspective, then it should be fine. I haven't checked it. If you tells to a node you set 0 for cache, then it should not cache apparently. I don't know any other ways to exclude a single node from caching.

Hi,

Thank you for the post.

Just like Kobylin said, TMG Web proxy implements a cache of frequently requested objects to improve network performance. You can configure the cache to ensure that it contains the data that is most frequently used by users.
