Disable Windows Sidebar via GPO
MS Security Advisory 2719662 states that the sidebar can be disabled via GPO by going to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Sidebar\. However, in my environment (2k8R2 DC's) I do not see this as an option.
Has this option been superceeded by \Computer Configuration \Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Desktop Gadgets\ ?
I have Turned off Desktop Gadgets from this latter location, however I find the documentation for this security advisory at odds with my active directory system. Thanks.

Hi,
For this group policy which you mentioned, it should be a setting in Windows Vista, I agree with you, it should be superseded by the desktop gadget settings.

Hi
The advisory applies to client SKUs, not on server.
In server, I guess, you are not seeing the same GP as windows sidebar component is not available thereJanaki Hariharan

The gpo to be modified is for workstations, and I'm examing it with GPMC on a windows7 box.

Ok, thanks for the clarification.
In that case, it's the GP, \Computer Configuration \Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Desktop Gadgets\ that should work in Win7.Janaki Hariharan
