Disable Vista Network Identification
Is there any way to disable the bullshit that is Vista's network identification? It's such a short sightedand terrible attempt at security, all it does is ruin my day any time I try toconnect to any network. I have to fight with this stupid thing wherever I go to get it to connect, and even to get it to connect to networks i've already setup half the time it just sits there "identifying" well Vista is too dumb to be able to identify the extremely complex networkwe run at work. I just want to disable this feature all together, when I plug in a network cable or Iconnect to a wireless network or a VPN network I just want vista to get me a DHCP address I do not need Vista to do ANYTHING else for me. How do I get rid of this? Or do I just go back to XP so that I can have a working computer again???

Hi, Thank you for your post. I am sorry for the inconvenience. Generally, thenetwork identificationis related to the feature NCSI (Network Connectivity Status Indicator) of Vista; and I would like to share the following information with you. Appendix K: Network Connectivity Status Indicator and Resulting Internet Communication in Windows Vista http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766017.aspx To disable the NCSI, please refer to the section Procedures for Controlling Communication Between NCSI and a Site on the Internet of the document. Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

The link above gives steps to follow but it doesn't work. (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766017.aspx) I did what it said (and already restart my computer) but nothing changes. I think the only way you can get away from this network identification is to go back to Windows XP or you can buy a MacBook! That is what I'm going to do. I'm so sick of Microsoft, even in the Microsoft web site gives information that can not really fix the problem. I think Microsoft should not even make that " network identification". It has no use, really. I don't see that Vista or Windows 7 has higher network performance. Only thing it improves is the "waiting time"!! In the next version of windows please!!!... take that " network identification" away!!
