Or on my video and picture camera? How can I solve the problem of double clicking on device with Autorun.inf?Regards First of all, because there may be more than one Microsoft Knowledge Base article on a given topic (there often are), you should specify which "Microsoft page" you are referencing. I assume that you mean "How to disable the Autorun functionality in Windows," KB 967715: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967715/en-usAs that article explains, you need to have the security update for KB967715. If you have been using Automatic Updates, you should already have it; if not download it from the link in the article. The easiest way to determine if you have this update is to look for the hidden uninstall file: $NtUninstallKB967715$ (this is in C:\Windows, but you have to configure Windows to show hidden files or, if you search, to select the option to look for hidden files and folders).According to the article's description of the manual method for disabling Autorun, the registry can be configured to disable Autorun on all types of types of drives or any combination of the following types of drives: unknown type removable drives fixed drives network drives CD-ROM drives RAM disksOn the other hand, Group Policy appears to have only three choices if the "Turn Off Autoplay" policy is enabled: (1 - the default) Autoplay disabled on removable drives (such as the floppy drive) and network drives but not CD drives; (2) Autoplay disabled on CD drives (in addition to network and removable drives); or (3) Autoplay disabled on all drives. I have not run the FixIt to determine if it permits you to select option (2). There is, of course, a fourth option: if the "Turn Off Autoplay" policy is not enabled or not configured, Autoplay will NOT be disabled on any device.Your video or still camera is treated the same as an external USB drive. I believe -- but haven't specifically checked -- that any USB-connected storage device (whether a hard drive, a flash memory stick, a camera, a memory card, or any other type of device) is considered to be a "removable drive." Thus, if Autorun is disabled for anything, it will be disabled for all such devices.I don't know what you mean by a problem with double-clicking on a device with Autorun.inf.

I forgot to show which article - and yes that's the one I mean.Thanks.I have automatic updates on and I have the latest updates already, so 100 % sure I have that update. It is the registry part I do not understand. Should I use registry or is it enough with gpedit.msc? You say Autoplay. If I disable Autoplay, will autorun be disabled too? What I worry about is when I put in USB - autorun.inf will execute malware through .dll or through .exe etc. I think for that I need to disable Autorun. I just realized that!In my options though (gpedit.msc) I have the third option - Disable Autoplay on all drives - but as I said, I just realized it just says Autoplay. Isn't there a difference between Autoplay and Autorun? You see, the thing is that that article gives a registry option and gpedit.msc. But I am not sure if the gpedit.msc way is the correct way to disable Autorun and Autoplay for all drives. I think I might have to download Microsoft Fix it.

This is the problem.Autoplay and Autorun seem to be two different things and from what I have understood it is this:Autoplay is the box that comes up as soon as you put in a USB media in your computerAutorun is something that as soon as you put in your media does what autorun.inf says (if the USB media has autorun.inf)I am not sure, but can will Autorun be disabled if you disable Autoplay? Last time I read the Microsoft article that was not the case. They are two different things as far as I know.Or maybe Autorun in turn makes sure that Autoplay is started?

Hi.Sorry for late answer. No, not yet because 1) I have been busy a little bit. 2) I am still very confused about everything and need to get everything clear first. 3) I'd rather do it manually than using a program.Regards
