Disable/Redirect Local Public Documents in Vista/Windows 7 Domain
Hi,I run a Domain Environment and need to either redirect or disable saving to local public documents in Windows Vista or Windows 7.Users can't save to the local Harddrive as the machines are imaged regularly, there is no way to control file extensions, I havequotas on the serverand Users are not allowed to save anywhere but the server for security reasons/virus' etc.How do I do this with Group Policy? In Windows XP I just removed the users permissions to the Documents folder and that worked because they never saw the folders. With Vista and Windows 7 the Public folders seem to be more part of the OS and is built into the desktop and libraries. Why doesn't Microsoft create their software for a Domain Environment? I can't imagine ANY one in a domain wanting users to download and save files on the local workstations. In Windows 7 I have already disabled libraries that run on indexing.ThanksLaralforbes

Hi Lara, Thank you for posting. I know that you would like to redirect or disable local public documents, so that the users cannot save files on local. If I have misunderstood your concern, please feel free to let me know. May I know if this is a Windows Server 2003 domain or Windows Server 2008 domain? To configure Folder Redirection, you may refer to the following documents: Folder Redirection Overview http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc732275(WS.10).aspx Recommendations for Folder Redirection http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc785925.aspx Folder Redirection http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc781907(WS.10).aspx Hope this helps. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT
