Direct Access and Tethering (eg: iPhone) and bandwidth usage, can it be controlled?
I'm considering implementing a DA setup at work but have some concerns regarding bandwidth usage combined with Tethering. The cause for my concern is that I was recently using a VPN link (l2tp/ipsec) from my home PC to my office network to remotely control my desktop there (using RDS) and it used over 1GB of bandwidth by the time I was done (I think it was about 1 hour), this would have nuked my phone bill with my data plan. Since DA is an "always on" type thing this seems to present a possible issue when it comes to bandwidth usage. Scenario: Office network and laptop configured with DA. User goes to location without wifi, so they use their smartphone to "Tether" an internet connection through their phone providers network (3g/Edge/etc). Concern: phone providers charge insane rates for data transfer, is there a way to control the DA related bandwidth usage? Examples: -limit traffic to user intiated requests for files and such (disable server-side originating push/pull traffic like client backups, WSUS updates, etc) -allow the user to disable the DA link for the duration of the tethered session (allow the user to toggle it on or off) I can't seem to find any documentation regarding bandth usage or control/limiting, although I think I there is a way to turn it off at the client (but how to handle forgetful users?). Anyway, anyone have any information about controlling the DA bandwidth usage?

Hi, Based on our knowledge, there is little method to achieve the goal for limiting the traffic. If you really want to limit the clients, we suggest you to disable the "IP Helper Service" manually on the client. To disable the "IP Helper Service", it equals to disable the "6to4,teredo,proxy...". For now, we didn't have the other methods to achieve this with DA. By default, the "IP Helper Service" is turned on automatically, you need to change it to manual, then disable it when it is not neccessary. Thanks. Regards, Annie
