Direct Access 2012 DNS Issue

Hi All

We have a DA 2012 server setup as follows, two NIC's one on Internal network, one on the External network.

So far DA on client PC's connects ok, but we can only talk to hosts on the same internal subnet as the DA server internal NIC.   Plus the DA connection manager shows as "connectivity not working" this maybe related to this issue.

If on a DA client for example i ping www.google.co.uk it does lookup to the IP6 address but no ping responce, but same happens if i ping something on thee same internal subnet as the server, BUT i can connect to it (as long as its on same subnet be it a website or fileshare etc).

We originally tested DA many months ago and did get it all working with a similar setup but for some reason this install isnt working as expected.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Hi Duncan

In response to your question a little more info is needed. My first questions are network card setup on the DA Server.

External should be Public IP / Or NAT IP if behind a Firewall, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway - NO DNS Servers

Internal card should be Internal IP, Subnet mask, NO Gateway, and Internal DNS Servers.

Also in Advanced Settings of Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections the External Card needs to be First

If you have more than one network behind the DA Server you will need to apply static routes to get there.

Check these settings first - jump on to the server and do ping tests to internal servers, the DNS Lookups. If you have more than one DNS Zone behind DA - DNS Suffixes will be needed
