Dialup Connection Problem
After installing and then uninstalling wireshark-win32-1.2.4 in windows 7, when i connect to internet by Dial Up connection,in control panel , 'Network and Sharing Center' show me that 'You are currently not connected to any networks.' and connection icon does not appear beside the clock in taskbar, but i am really connected and can browse the web with no problem and download anything! this problem only occures in dialup connection and does NOT occure in wireless connections. I am using windows 7(Ultimate 6.1.7600 build 7600 and updated untill 2010-01-04) and ESET Smart Security 4.0.467.0 as a firewall and antivirus.

Hi, Please try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Temporarily turn off firewall on the machine and router (If it has). 2. Upgrade the NIC driver. 3. Restart the computer to Safe Mode with Networking to check the result. Does the issue persist? Thanks, Novak

Correct me if i'm wrong, so you're saying you could connect to the net using wireless instead of dialup? Could you kindly verify under device manager>network adapter (same goes to the dialup adapter) is working and there's isn't any exclamation mark. Also i assume you need a username and password given by the ISP (internet service provider) to dial your dialup connection? If you're connecting the internet connection through a router, did you ensure that the username and password are input correctly on the router config page? Lastly did you try connecting directly with the dialup modem thus bypassing the router for the time being and see how it goes

Its not clear yet to us. Connecting to the internet via the dialup doesn't mean you're actually connecting to any network. You also haven't yet identified that you have any other computers you want to connect to for packet sniffing, unless you're sniffing traffic through a dial up connection, so you need to expand on what exactly the problem is you're having since you can connect to the internet via dialup.MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Ok sir, let me describe the problem completely maybe it clear the problem. In my office I can connect to internet by my laptop with 2 methods: Method 1-Dial up Connection: I type the username and password that ISP provided for me in Dial up connection form and then dial the phone number of ISP by modem. After a few second I am connected and can browse the web but the problem is in "Network and Sharing Center" that show me this:"You are currently not connected to any networks" and there is a cross over red line between my computer icon and the world icon(internet icon). If i am not connected why can i browse the web!!! Method 2-Wireless Connection: I type the WEP key and then I am connected And there is no problem in "Network and Sharing Center" and my computer icon is connected to world icon without any cross over red line. So there is a problem only in Dial up connections and this problem occurred after installing and uninstalling some bad software(fu©kingware!!!) such as wireshark because I had not such problems when I had installed new installation of windows seven. I try some other ISP for Dialup connection but problem remaining and this means that there is no problem in my ISP and the problem is in my windows seven. "Novak Wu" wrote in previous post:"3. Restart the computer to Safe Mode with Networking to check the result." but in safe mode with networking, dial up connections does not work, taste your solution before write a post! If you want to know more about this problem tell me how to gather the informations that you need! Thanks and Regards,Sir

Here you are wanting help and what do you do when somebody suggests something before we knew EXACTLY what your problem was, you disrepect them and not only that, it was a moderator not that you minded I guess. Ok, lets see, you're not complaining that you CAN'T connect to the internet, because you can with both connections, your only complaint is the the network sharing shows you're not connected when you actually are to the internet, is that correct? Good grief and chill a little, and you'll catch far more flies with honey than you can with vinegar ;)MCSE, MCSA, MCDST [If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Yes sir , I am so glad, finally you understand what is my problem! Now I think that the first step for solving this problem is to find the fu©kingware that cause this problem and the second step is to find settings and files of dialup connections that this fu©kingware fu©ked them. I think wireshark-win32-1.2.4 (http://www.wireshark.org/download.html) is a fu©kingware that fu©ked my win7.Is it possible for you to install it in win7 and then connecting via dial up for checking your dial up connection status? Check it again after installing ESET Smart Security 4.0.467.0 as a firewall and antivirus, too. Do you have any other solution except mine!
