Diagnostic & Recovery Toolset (DaRT) OS Compatibility By Boot Disk
Maybe I am overlooking something here but I cannot seem to find any solid documentation on DaRT boot disk compatibility. So far I understand that... DaRT v5.0 Supports Windows 2000/XP/2003 (32-Bit Only) DaRT v6.0 Supports Windows Vista/Server 2008 (32 & 64-Bit) DaRT v6.5 Supports Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 (32 & 64-Bit) DaRT v7.0 also supports Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 (32 & 64-Bit) A few questions about all of this… 1) Is DaRT v6.5 for 7/Server 2008 R2 RTM Only? (Pre SP1). On the flip side is DaRT v7.0 only for Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 SP1? 2) I understand that if I create a DaRT boot disk on Windows 7 32-Bit it will not work with a 64-Bit edition and vice versa. Is this true for each edition also? Say I create a boot disk with Windows 7 Enterprise would I need to create another disk to work with Windows 7 Professional? 3) Though I definitely do not plan on burning a disk to cover all operating systems and platforms, would this be accurate? Assuming OS Editions don't matter. -3 x boot disk for Windows 2000/XP/2003 (32-Bit) -4 x boot disks for Windows Vista & Server 2008 (Both 32 & 64-Bit) -3 x boot disks for Windows 7 (32 & 64-Bit) & Server 2008 R2 (64-Bit) Pre SP1 -3 x boot disks for Windows 7 (32 & 64-Bit) & Server 2008 R2 (64-Bit) SP1 Thanks in advance.

Hi, First, regarding the DaRT 7.0, as it is a beta version, you may go to https://connect.microsoft.com/site1200/DaRT7Beta for the questions. 1) Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset 6.5 Supported operating systems Windows® 7 Windows Server® 2008 R2 Support was added for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, and support was removed for all older operating systems. See Release Notes for Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset 6.5 2) DaRT does not support cross-platform boot media. But I think the edition is not the problem. 3) yes. Hi Sabrina. This does clarify several items, thanks for your response. This link for the DaRT 7.0 beta site no longer works though, from what I can tell DaRT 7.0 hit RTM recently and is included in MDOP 2011 R2. I do have the option to install DaRT 7.0 from this particular media. See link below... http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/b/business/archive/2011/08/01/mdop-2011-r2-now-available-for-download.aspx Mainly I have one last item that is still unclear... -Both DaRT 6.5 & DaRT 7.0 support Windows 7/Server 2008 R2. Is DaRT 7 meant to be a direct replacement (with added features) for version 6.5? Or is Dart 6.5 designed to be compatible with Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 RTM (Pre SP1) and DaRT 7.0 designed for Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 with SP1? And final question is there a MS forum somewhere specifically for DaRT and/or MDOP? I searched briefly but I was unable to find one. Am I missing something? Thanks again. Steve

Hi Steve, Thank you for your questions and interesting with the new version of DaRT. As this product will be generally available in the third quarter of 2011 as part of the next version of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP), I think you’d better ask the questions and submit the feedback via the connect alias mentioned in the following link: Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset (DaRT) 7 Beta Released! Hi I'm having troubles with my admin pasword and I want to use the option 'Locksmith' from DaRT6.5 , since I have Windows 7. The only problem is that I can't find DaRT anywhere on the net for download. It doesn't need to be the new Beta, but just a working version for Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I was looking for instructions and all that, but no site ever mentioned where to download. Thanks for your reply. Raf (ons.rafke@gmail.com) Note: I'm currently working on a computer without any user with admin-rights and I can't log on to windows using the general admin pasw. ("switch users"-button in log-on screen is not present )
