Devices and Printers not working in Windows 7
I can't get any printers to show up in my Windows 7 Devices and Printers. All my printers, networked and local, show up in the drop down box when I to to print, but I can't manage any of them because they don't show up in the Devices & Printers applet. I've read a lot of stuff in the Internet (this and other sites), a lot of it related to BlueTooth devices, followed instructions and so on, but still can't get this to work. This is my personal laptop that I use for work. Has or will Microsoft come up with a solution for what seems to be a fairly common problem?

When did the issue first occur? If the issue first occurred recently, please check if System Restore can resolve this issue. If the issue persists, please go to Start, type cmd in the Start Search box, right click on cmd.exe and then click "Run as administrator". In the command box, copy the following command: start shell:::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}\0\::{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D} What is the result? Also, you can try the suggestions in this article to check the result: http://iefaq.info/index.php?action=artikel&cat=42&id=133&artlang=en Please Note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Hi Michelle; I had something similar happen to me about 2 months ago but can't honestly tell if you have the exact same problem. Seeing that no one has responded to you with an answer this is worth a try at least. What finally resolved my issue was something similar to what Linda starts with but with a bit of a twist: 1. I did a system restore to a point well before my problem started (i used 1 month before) 2. I installed my favorite 3rd party defrag program as my disk had gotten really full and I suspected this had caused my disk to fragment badly. 3. Defragmented my drive before allowing windows to re-install all the updates it now needed as a result of the System Restore I did. 4 All updates now installed without a hitch and the other OS glitches and anomolies cleared up as well I've noticed that i tend to get way more random unexplainable problems when I neglect regularly defragmenting the drive. Also as the drive gets fuller the fragmentation becomes worse exponentially. My solution on past systems I've used has been to install a 3rd party defragmentor that can run automatically and transparently so I actually end up using it as often as needed and so this whole aspect of normal maintenance actually gets done and it worked yet again on my latest system. Check out this link to learn more about fragmentation and what's out there —it's been a good move for me: TOP DEFRAG REVIEW 2011 Hope this helps Cheers!

Disk defragmentation will only affect performance and should never be the cause of system problems. Windows 7 should automatically run its built in dfragmenter frequently and there should be no need for the user to do manual defrags. For your Devices and printers problem, is the Print Spooler service running? Start orb > services.msc, scroll down to Print Spooler and verify that it is running. Jerry
