Devices and Printers Empty and desktop icons won't stay deleted
I installed Windows 7 on a Toshiba laptop. Printers and Devices show that nothing is installed. I have installed several printers, and am able to print, but since they do not show up, I am unable to removed the ones that don't work or set a default printer. Logging in with a domain admin account showed the printers and devices for that profile. The user profile not corrupted as far as i can tell by looking at the profile on the server. This is a Toshiba Satellite U305-S5077 which previously had Vista installed. We installed Windows 7 because it was logging slow and the user wanted to try Windows 7. Another Toshiba Satellite laptop in the building also has Windows 7 installed and Devices and Printers shows the devices and functions just fine. the path required: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Device Metadata\dmrccache\en-US as listed in another post is not present in the user profile on the computer. Folder from Device Metadata does not exsist for this user profile. The Techie profile (Domain Administrator account) had the Device Metadate and dmrccache folders, but not the file en-US. (Hidden files are showing.) (I had to delete the Techie profile to get it to stop syncing offline files) Can the required file and path be copied from a working computer/profile or is there a repair function? Additionally, the same user profiles will not allow desktop icons to stay deleted. When the user logs on each time, the icons have returned even when the recycle bin has been emptied or the icons were permanently deleted the first time. I haven't tried to delete the icons from the desktop file in the profile copy on the server as I'd like to solve the problem on the computer so the problem is not ongoing. I've tried changing the group policies the user is subject to, but that doesn't solve either problem.

Have you been able to fix your problem yet? I upgraded my Vista system to Windows 7 using a clean install. It has been operating fine for weeks. Today, there are no devices or printers shown in the window. I can print to my printer from some applications, but others give an error (example: Windows Live). The Window used to show all my devices and printers - maybe a dozen different devices. I tried to let it search for devices but it doesn't do anything. I did see a posting from the beta days that people tried turning on the Bluetooth service. I don't have a bluetooh service, bt I do have a 'bluetooth support service' which I turned on with no change to the problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Barry

Barry I solved my problem when I found another post wqith a URL to a CMD file that registers all DLLs. Give this a try: http://iefaq.info/index.php?action=artikel&cat=42&id=133&artlang=en Barry
