Device driver issues
I have just installed W7 in a clean partition on my Dell Inspiron 9150 which normally runs XP Media Centre. Running W7 for the first time I noticed that I had no Internet connection. I use WiFI with an USB device (TwinWire). I loaded the DD for this device, as supplied for my Vista laptop PC, which loaded OK but W7 still does not recognise the device when I plugged it in. Without internet access I am stuck as all the other devices (printer, camera, scanner etc) that have yellow triangles would require drivers from the suppliers which I do not have on CD. The sound card SW (Soundblaster 24 live) would not install as it would not accept W7 as a valid OS. I do not have the ability to connect to the router by cable. Hope you can help, Peter

On the face of it, I'd say that you need to load the chipset drivers for that machine. Barring Win7-specific drivers, use Vista drivers (32- or 64-bit, as applicable to your installation.)I'd give you link(s), but, your computer seems not to exist - I can find (for example) a Dimension 9150 desktop, or an Inspiron 9100 laptop, but not an Inspiron 9150.Desktop or laptop? And, could you verify the model name & number?-Chris[If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Hi, Thank you for your posts. Peter, could you please let us know the detail information about the devices (Wireless NIC and sound card), such as the brand and model. After getting this, we will help you check if there will be proper drivers released for this devices. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

Thanks to all. It is a Dell Dimension 9150, sorry about the confusion. I have resolved all the issues except for the USB WiFi, it was supplied by BT and made by 2Wire. They do not support it under Vista. I have a new USB device on order (not from BT). The solution I used was to use a spare BT modem which I could connect within Ethernet cable distance of the Dell. Using this I was able to use the W7 driver expert to resolve the driver issues for sound card and TV card etc. Dell printer (A922) found drivers but failed to load them, I have not followed this up yet. The biggest issue left is the supporting applications for sound card, printer etc as the devices are old and not supported yet if ever. I guess that is always the problem with new OS, I had the same with Vista. Thanks again, Peter
