Device Stage for Printer - Worked, now doesn't ?
i recently used DeviceStage to selectmy all in one Epson CX4400 to scan a document. I went here after I couldn't find my "epson scan" program anywhere (its as if windows 7 deleted shortcuts and entries to it from my desktop and start menu) so, I was thrilled to see thatdevice stage can handle all the aspects of dealing with the printer.then, I got ahead of myself and thought that everything driver wise, must be cool w/ Windows7 and proceeded to uninstall my "epson scan" program. after the uninstall,I thenwent back to device manager and clicked the scan a document and it said "no scanner installed"so obviously, i was a little upset andthen proceeded to do a system restore to two days ago which brought my reference to the epson scan program back. so everything was good...right....no...i went back to device stage and while my printer was there, the nifty printer Icon was not, and it was replacedby a generic folder Icon. double clicking on this did not bring up the fancy device stage profile, rather it attempted to open it for a second, then glitching the window and that window completely dissappeared.iremoved the printer, reinstalled it and did this several ways. while all functionality still works, how comemy device isn't registering in device stage like it did before? that is a really cool feature...

Hi, That is because the printer driver was corrupt or lost, so system would not consider that it was an available printer. After you install the driver it was listed again. Because the printer driver was not removed by general ways but System Restore, the device stage did not detect this situation and refresh in time.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Arthur, thanks for the response, sorry for maybe not reading between the lines, but are you suggesting to "Add/Remove" all printer driver and app installations and then doing a fresh install?i thought that after several days of use, everything would work itself out, but it hasn't. Also, I have a Canon Selphy photo printer, which had never been turned on with Windows 7, when I did, the OS handled everything like it should have, however again, in Device Stage a generic folder icon appears again, like the Epson. I did nothing to the Canon drivers or programs what-so-ever.again thanks, you guys have really outdone yourselves with Windows 7!

Hi, It seems that the Canon printer driver is included in Windows 7. In this kind of situations, when we connect the printer, the driver will be installed automatically. The system must detected that the driver for the Canon printer does not exist, so the printer driver is installed then and the device is listed in the stage. I just thought that the driver is corrupt so suggested that you remove and reinstall the driver. The current status should be OK.Arthur Xie - MSFT
