Device Manager: PCI simple communications controller
Windows 7 RC loaded just fine and working well. In device manager though there is 1 item showing as 'PCI simple communications controller' as not loaded/driver not installed. I've done Google search but haven't seen anything that leads me to an answere. Anybody figure what to do withthis please?

You have an Intel motherboard, correct?Load the Intel ME (management engine), or the Intel Desktop Utilities (IDU) for your board. If not available for Windows 7, the Vista version installed ok for me in compatibility mode.Doc

It's a Intel G965 Express Chipset and I have been trying to find a downloadable IDU on Intels site. It has no negative effect on the system so far but I would still like to have all devices in order with no thumbs sticking out.

A PCI simple communications controller usually means no driver installed for the PCI card modem for dial-up Internet service. Right click that PCI controller in device manager, select Properties, click the details tab, choose hardware Ids as the property, and then search for drivers with the data given in the "value" box (or post the data given here). What you are looking for is like this: PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4370&SUBSYS_2A27103C&REV_02 (In case of wondering, that is my onboard sound card vendor and HW ID...) Hello! Please check the Action Center (it's the little flag thingy next to the clock). I believe it should have more details on how to get drivers for this device. Are you running the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 7?Want to know if your hardware will work on Windows 7? http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?strState=LIVE&ProductID=2375&DwnldID=10895&agr=Y&lang=eng&PrdMap=2375That looks like the right driver package, but please check Action Center first. You'll probably have to run in compatibility mode to install the package. Check out these links: **Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor ** **Microsoft Logo'd Hardware List** Hi Victor 7, I agree with Mark that you should try to install the Intel ME for the motherboard. Since Win 7 is not listed in the OS requirements, youd better install Intel ME in Windows Vista compatible mode. After downloading Intel ME, right click the installation file, choose Properties, under Compatibility tab, check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", choose Windows Vista, click OK. Then double click the .exe file to install it. Regards. Cecilia Zhou

You missed the 2nd post. Doc But a "PCI simple communications controller" means a hardware device and not software to run the comp, so I had to ask for the HW id for what I thought was the modem, then oh, it is that intel ME.... If this is the thanks I get, I will direct my attention to other threads.Hello! "PCI simple communications controller" = PCI Modem card. Hi guys, Have a look at the link below: PCIDatabase.com 0x29A4 Chip Number: Intel DP965RY Chip Description: The Intel Management Engine provides thermal management for Intel Desktop Boards. Notes: Intel Management Engine Interface (HECI) - download from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/ It seems that it doesnt specify that the device is a modem card. It is more related to Intel ME. Thus, I still suggest Victor 7 should try to install Intel ME. Thanks. Cecilia Zhou

I had this same problem with the same hardware id and unknown device listing in XP. While it does list it as a PCI Simple Communications Controller, which IS generally a modem, there is no modem in this machine and the driver is in fact the Intel Management Engine Interface.
