Hi all, Background: We currently use a proxy auto configuration script (hosted on an internal server) to direct traffic to the correct proxy server. We are not using WPAD, so the scripts URL is hardcoded. The Issue: The issue we experience is when users are remote and want to access Internet services. They open Internet Explorer and then wait for the browser to detect the proxy settings. As they are remote the PAC file is not available and therefore it fails direct. Unfortunately this process to fail direct is very inconsistent and can often take up to 60 seconds. This results in a lot of user frustration. I have tested this on Windows XP through to 7 (IE6 to IE9). The results are the same. Questions: Is there a timeout option that can be set for detecting proxy settings? If not, does anyone have any tips to make this experience more consistent? Many thanks, Matt.

Please try un-checking the Auto proxy setting, clicking apply and then re-checking the Autodetect setting to check the result. If it does not work, Please navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\DefaultConnectionSettings Delete this key. Also you can exporte this key from a working client and imported it on a non-working client. Please do make a backup of the registry before any modification. Hi, Thanks for your response. To clarify, the timeout issue is not isolated to a couple of machines. It is also inconsistent (does not always happen). Finally, we have 35,000 clients working remotly, therefore I am hoping for a resolution that does not invlove the user (non-technical) making any changes to their build. I have asked out Microsoft account team the same question, but we are struggling with a response. Hence I thought I would post here to. Can you provide a little more detail about what removing the specified key actually does? Also, can you confirm there is no way to set a specific time-out value, for example 3 seconds. Cheers, Matt.

Hi, Internet explorer will cach the proxy information in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections\DefaultConnectionSettings and SavedLegacySettings. From your description, it seems that proxy is not stable as the issue is inconsistent.
