Desktop layout autosave?
Hi,I have the next issue and I have a hunge there is (not yet) a satisfying solution for it.I have windows7-x64-RC installed on my laptop and the following is a bit anoying. My windows login has no password because I want it to boot all the way. When I boot up my laptop and close the screen after pressing the powerbutton everything is OK, but... when I open the screen, the screengets re-installed it seems. New screen, so all the desktop icons are resorted to the left.A password solves that icon-issue, but the screen is still re-installed (that's what it looks like) when in the login-screen.In my opinion the OS should look if that user has a certain desktop-layout for those icons with that screen-resolution if a screen is re-installed. So always save the layout somewhere so it can be recalled. Save that layout every hour, or user-defined looks like a good option, or maybe there is some kind of a fix for this? Please also notify me if this issue has been solved for te RTM.Edit:This issue is also noticed with Remote Desktop sessions on the server-side. Client-side-resolution and screen stays the same.

Just_Maxxer, I would like to confirm the exact issue you are encountering. Does the resolution or background picture changed when opening the screen? This issue can occur due to corrupt user profiles. We can try the steps below to check the result: Create a new account===================1. Click Start Menu, and then click Control Panel. 2. Click switch to a Classic View in left panel. 3. Double-click User Accounts.4. Click Change another use account. 5. Click Create a new account, and type the name. 6. Choose account type as Computer administrator. 7. Click Create Account. 8. Log off from the built-in administrator account and try to log on the new account. Does the issue persist? I think this issue wont occur in Win7 RTM. Hope the above information is useful for you. :)

Hi Candice,After one off/on-flicker the screen 'reinstalls' as if it was not recognized at the boot. When the screen is closed there is no physical input at the screen itself, so maybe windows doesn't recognize the rest of the screen-hardware and simply does not install the screenyet until the lid is being opened. But since it is a laptop the resolution does not change, neither does the wallpaper on my desktop (I did have some of those issues with the Beta, but not with the RC). But since it's softwarematically a 'new' screen the icons get resorted according the user-settings.When I add another account it is the same as when I add a password to my account. The user-desktop itself is not loaded yet when I open the screen and therefor the issue does not affect my desktop. The screen does flicker though when I open the lid, so I asume it is being re-installed.Can you confirm my thoughts about that re-installing? Another screen (same resolution or not), is for the system a new screen. Although it may have been installed previously, the system will RE-install it and resets the desktop to user-settings (but not icon-location). So maybe there should be some softwarepart that does NOT reset those desktop-settings when the screen-resolution is the same as the last recognized one (with that account even?). (But when done with every single account, the accounts could become large when in the end all hardware-settings are saved within the accounts.)By the way, this issuewith remote desktop is rather normal for the re-install part, but automatically re-arranging the desktop-icons with known and previously installed resolutions should not be in my opinion. Auto-reset the icons-location to the user-saved settingswhen a known screen-resolution is present would look more like it.Hope to have you informed you enough, if not, just post the question.

Hi Just_Maxxer,Based on your latest description, I understand that when opening the screen, there is a flicker. After that, the resolution, wallpaper and icons on desktop won't be affect. This may be only a little issue regarding display card. we can install the latest vedio card driver to check the result. If you have any difficulty in finding the driver, please let us know the exact brand and model of your vedio card. I will help you find the appropriate driver.:)Candice

Hi Candice,Indeed, the screen flickers once and resolution, wallpaper, the icons themselves and a desktop program called samurize are not affected with this issue. The only problem is the icon-location.I will look for another video-driver, but no luck for now.Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT Turbocache (says the label on my laptop)Now installed is softwareversion 7.15.11.7620 for x64 Vista, no drivers (yet) for x64 Win7, so maybe it's not fully compatible. It runs, but just that tiny issue could make the difference between the vista-drivers and win7-drivers.The laptop is an Acer Aspire 7730G. Might come as usefull info also.Ah well, we'll see what happens with newer drivers.

Hi Just_Maxxer,We can try a Desktop Icon Saver to fix our issue. After doing some research, I found we could get this type of tool from:Desktop Icon Saver or Desktop Icon Saver 1.0.Hope this can fix the issue. :)Best wishes,Candice

Hi Candice,It's a nice try, but i'll keep it with my loginpassword for now. This may be a bit anusual, but saving my desktop with 3rd-party applications is more of a hassle than that password at login.Others with a laptop and previous Vista do not have this issue, so I'm guessing this is simply a hardware issue that cannot be beaten bij a software-tune. I think I'm one of the few with this hardware/software-combo, and maybe even the only one that wants no login-password.I'll test this with another Win7-version and report back soon. Maybe this was just an issue with the RC and is already fixed now.
