Desktop icons disappear when not in domain network or offline
Hello everyone! I have an user which uses laptop and PC. This week i migrated her from windows XP to 7. Everyhing is working great except that icons disappear (all except trash) from her desktop when she disconnects from the domain network also Windows displays the message that it cannot find desktop folder, which is located on server. The problem is also strange because i can see all desktop items stored in her offline files. To She suffers the same problem on both, the stationary computer and laptop. Also the problem is probably not on server side cause to other 30 users which i had also migrated to win 7 so far everything works fine. Any solutions or ideas would come in great. P.S. Please excuse me for bad english

Update: Today i went again to see the user who has the problem described above, and it turns out that when she is in offline or in non domain network, she also can't access documents (windows starts looking for documents on server) or anything that is stored in her profile or redirected files. I also got reports that some other users, who have laptop an PC are suffering from similar problems. I'd really apriciate if someone could gave me some hint about where the problem is lieing.

Hi, According the issue, I want to know how you set the user profile synchronization setting? Did you set the roaming profile? And did you upgrade you DC to Windows 2008 (or Windows 2008 R2)? Please understand, the user profile on Windows XP is different from which on the Windows 7/Vista. Windows Operation System use user profile version 2 since Windows Vista. And the user profile version 1 could not be loaded in Windows 7 properly. However, it is acceptable to use the existing server and file share where you store your current roaming user profiles. Each user will have two roaming profile folders, one for Windows Vista and one for Windows XP. If you use Roaming Profile with a domain account, and just clean install on these client. The user profile wouldn’t be loaded on Windows 7 based machine correctly, it may cause these kind of problem which you met. If you migrate Windows XP to Windows 7 through one of the following official method, please let me know the detail steps you did. For your reference, to migrate roaming profiles data to Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008, you can use one of the following support methods: Method 1: Use the User State Migration Tool 4.0 to migrate profile data to the new format. (For Windows 7 Only) For more information about User State Migration Tool 4.0, please refer to the following link: User State Migration Tool 4.0 User's Guide Method 2: Use the Folder Redirection feature to share data between Version 1 and Version 2 user profiles. For more information, refer to the KB article: Support guidelines for migrating roaming user profiles data to Windows Vista or to Windows Server 2008 References: For more information about Version 2 user profiles and about the difference between Version 1 and Version 2 user profiles, visit the following Microsoft Web site: Managing Roaming User Data Deployment Guide http://download.microsoft.com/download/3/b/a/3ba6d659-6e39-4cd7-b3a2-9c96482f5353/Managing%20Roaming%20User%20Data%20Deployment%20Guide.doc Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
