Desktop icons & task bar missing in folder redirection
I found I'm not the only one with this problem but no one seems to have a good resolution.
Server runs 2008 R2 Foundation. Clients are Windows 7 x64. Server is new. Clients were in a workgroup and then added to the new domain. GPO set up for folder redirection. Initial parts when smoothly, folders got moved to server, all looked good.
Problem is when the laptops were shut down and taken home. When they logged into them, there were no desktop icons and no taskbar.
I'm stumped as to what is going on. Suggestions welcome.

How did you set the redirection? Overview:

To be honest with you Roaming profiles and folder redirection in Windows out of the box is very poor. If I was you I would look at a solution like AppSense, RES WorkSpace Manager or possibly Microsoft UE-V (currently in beta and should be part of MDOP which
is available to Software Assurance Companies at a very cheap cost)
And no I'm not a salesman for Microsoft, it's just that MDOP works out a lot cheaper than other solutions for SA customersPLEASE MARK ANY ANSWERS TO HELP OTHERS Blog:

That link is just how I did it, using the Basic method. I also found this,
http://www.itechtalk.com/thread1958.html, and followed it for permissions and offline file sync.
The other methods you mention are simply not an option. This customer is a very small shop (that's what the company I work for deals with) and so we need to use what is available. Roaming profiles are not used as we try to avoid them if possible. But we
try to use folder redirection in many circumstances because then the user's desktop, my documents, and favorites are backed up since they are on the server.
We're using folder redirection at other client sites without this problem and they were set up the same way so I don't understand what this client's PCs are having this problem.

The cause has been found and corrected. The laptops that were experiencing this problem had just been upgraded from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional. Apparently this upgrade does not enable offline files in the sync center. Once this was
enabled, the files synced and then the users had access to everything while offline.
