Desktop appears as a folder
Windows XP SP3; the desktop suddenly appears as a folder complete with the blue bar down the left side of the screen. (I have screen shot available) and I can't find anyway go back to the 'normal' view of desktop. This is a user account problem; I can add a user & login as that user and the desktop is normal. If I created a new user; moved all the stuff over and deleted the old user account. Then yesterday I attached a second monitor testing it and when I unchecked "extend desktop" and applied, it did again on this user account. This has been going on for months & I can't figure it out.Any help appreciated. To view the screen shot, click http://jasb.com/images/desktopimage.jpg 1 person got this answerI do too

That is strange, try that side and see if it work or not, I mean by click on links.Try to change your background and windows theme to classic and see if it will solve ot not.Try to run full system scan with:http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htmAlso try to restore your PC to when that you didn't have this problem.See if problem resolved

The side functions as in any folder view, all the links work as expected. Changing backgrounds changes in the 'window' but doesn't effect the 'folder' view. My system stays scanned with multiple scanners (I do system repair/mal-ware removal, etc using this box), so it stays clean.I've tried everything I can think of, it's definitely a user thing and I can't help but think it's either some weird registry key or an .ini or .htt file thing; But it must be something hidden. When I change to "windows classic" theme, the picture goes away, background (where picture is) goes blue and the folder field on right changes white (and it changes as you change background color so it contrasts with the windows background color; which is what I'd expect if I were changing the background in a folder. So it amounts to windows displaying desktop as a folder instead of the normal desktop view. It's driving me up the wall not knowing what it is.Thanks for your suggestions
