Dell studio 1735 windows 7 and cd drive
Would anybody happen to know a solution to this problem? I was able to load windows 7 64-bit over vista 32-bit by the way of a clean installation. Everything worked great except for the cd drive. My cd drive on the laptop is one which does not have a disk-tray. You basically push the cd into the laptop. Anyway, I try a cd and it works fine, but as soon as I pop the 1st cd out and then put the second cd into the drive, it spits the cd back out and keeps making noises as though it's trying to spit cd's out even though there is no cd in the drive after it spits the cd out. After I restart the computer, I can put in a cd, but the second I put in a second cd, the cd drive starts spitting the cd out. This makes it impossible if I want to, for example, load a program onto my computer which requires more than one cd. I've tried everything I could think of, installing drivers, uninstalling and reinstalling windows 7, but nothing works. Any ideas?

When you have a problem with Dell hardware, the first place to check is the Dell Support website for your hardware: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WV64&catid=-1&dateid=-1&impid=-1&osl=EN&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=STUDIO1735&hidos=WLH&hidlang=en&TabIndex=&scanSupported=False&scanConsent=False If your read carefully you will note there are FIRMWARE updates for the oprical drives. Reading the description of at least on slot loader it states the firmware update is for Windows 7 compatibility. Have you applied the firmaware update for your optical drive? Neither Microsoft nor the Windows operating system can fix a hardware fault.
