Dell Inspiron Power Problem
I have an old system on what has been a reliable Inspiron 9100. I used the system for testing my software on XP. Today the Inspiron has developed a power problem. I know the battery is bad (and an obvious thing to do is to remove the battery). The system will just above boot showing the xp boot before goes through a boot death and it light sout. The power failure startd when the lights go out. Oh yes, the Dell is on it's chrger. I know the charger hums and a little power charges enough to get close to booting. Now I have taken the battery out and it stays alive the same amount of time and poops out in darkness. Renee

Hello, Does it exhibit the behaviour in safe mode? If not, you might have a driver problem or malware problem. This can be anything ranging from corruped data, to a bad hdd, to bad RAM to a mainboard problem. It doesn't get to a "mode" in the booting process before the lights go out. Renee

I've don't know how. The Dell was brought to me when I was in the hospital for a year.... I don't have time in 3-4 seconds. Renee

.... I don't have time in 3-4 seconds. Huh? Actually Renee, that was a very rude comment about Leo, you won't get much help if you are rude to the people who are helping you and answering questions. Please post this in the Dell forum I mentioned above. That's where this question belongs.Miguel Fra / Falcon IT Services Computer & Network Support, Miami, FL Visit our Knowledgebase and Support Sharepoint Site

If Leo knew hardware vs software problems he'd know the problem is a hardware problem and not XP related at all. I thought I made it clear that the systen only stays up for 3-4 seconds. Renee

Renee The only thing you've made clear is that you don't remotely understand the basics of either PC's or choosing the right forum. This is not a Microsoft issue nor an OS issue. Take some of the severance pay they gave from DEC when they downsized the cleaning crew and buy a new PC.Ctrl+Z

Adam, Not only do I understand computers but I was a top-flight engineer while you were still wearing diapers. Again no one asked you or thinks highly of your opinions. You bothered to enter this communicatation and essentially you interupted a conversation, Dave said you were obnoxious and I would agree with him. And you are wrong, applications developer. I'd like to remind you that you were the first person banned from this forum. "This is a hardwre probrem and is NOT an XP problem in any way." I said so on the seventh. Renee

Renee How is this a Window7 issue or a Microsoft forum problem top-flight engineer? Does anyone wonder why DEC is dead with top-flight engineers like this? I don't.Ctrl+Z

" Adam, Let me get this straight? You came all the way over here just to attempt to bellittle me? Yes I did and I feel better about myself now. Thanks for raising me up" Then your communication was nothing more than an attack designed to make yourself feel better about yourself. I suggest that you find a method that does not involeve attempted belittling of other people. This individual was removed from the forum for a year!!! This is obviously an attack and I hope management looks at this and removes this individual permanemtly which would suit him right. Renee

ok Let's get back on topic Renee. You've stated and made it clear that it's a hardware problem. Now you used to be a top-flight engineer and a moderator here you must have a superior knowledge of computers and where to post issues. So with that, how do you not know what's wrong with a simple PC? Also, how do you not know where to post? Can you please clarify that so we can further assist you?Ctrl+Z

I don't pay attention to the simple problems. I was hoping this is not the end of the inspiron. To this end, I have purchased 32 bit xp and will put it on my t61. Renee
