Deleting a Homegroup
A little background: 3 Win 7 computers - 2 running the public RC, 1 running Pro x64 RTM from MSDN-AA. Two are laptops connecting to the homegroup over wireless, the (supposed) host machine is a wired desktop. Also the x64 is a MacbookPro running native windows through boot camp (doubt it matters but worth mentioning). Other network entities include an Maxtor Shared Storage drive (ethernet) and the cable modem. The problem: While installing Win 7 on the desktop I knew that I wanted to create a home network using homegroup so I set up and memorized the password for the group. I then proceeded to install win 7 on the two laptops and successfully joined the other RC to the homegroup. The first sign something was wrong was the RTM install would not connect to the homegroup, but I didn't care since this computer is my school comp and is rarely in the house. However, as the days have worn on more and more problems arose between the primary machines, which, according to the homegroup troubleshooter is the fault of unidentified network issues. I figured the best way to resolve this would be to restart the homegroup since the problem seemed to be a wired v wireless issue. However once the homegroup was removed from the laptop and then the desktop the only option I was given was to rejoin my previous homegroup! Even though there is not a single PC on the homegroup any more (they have all been removed) the homegroup still persists. Even worse, I am given an unidentified error (this time not related to the network) when I try to join. Even when I try to rejoin the homegroup from the computer which it says is hosting it, I recieve the same error as I originally did on my x64 RTM copy. So now I'm positive I need to delete the homegroup but I have no option to do that! As the only information for removing homegroups involves removing the component computers from them I have no idea what to do! The short: What registry edits or networking settings can I change to make my computer forget it was ever part of a homegroup/delete the homegroup files? Yours in troubleshooting ____, Dan

Don't use homegroup. Workgroup shareing that's been around since 98 works alot better. You can share files from 98se, ME, XP, Vista, and 7. If your good with samba you can even share with MACs and Linux

To get rid of Homegroup, simply stop/disable these two services: "HomeGroup Listener" and "HomeGroup Provider"
