Deleting Old emails in Windows XP Outlook Express:
Does anyone know how to remove/delete accumulated messages in both my "Deleted" Folder and in my "Sent" folder. I thought the Deleted messages were automatically deleted after so many days and that does not happen. And in my Sent folder they never delete and right now I have 4000 messages that I want to get rid of. All I'd really like to keep are the last 30 daysThanks

For Deleted Items, just right click on it and Empty Deleted Items Folder. For Sent Items:To delete all: Highlight one and Ctrl + A will highlight them all. - Delete.Messages do not delete automatically. To delete a section: Highlight the first one you want to delete. Scroll down to the last one and click on it while holding the Shift key down. - Delete. To delete multiple messages that are interspersed: Hold down the Ctrl key while you click on each message to highlight. - Delete. When you're done, make sure to compact your folders as described below.General precautions for Outlook Express:Do not archive mail in the Inbox or Sent Items. Create your own user defined folders and move the messages you wish to save to them. Empty Deleted Items folder daily. Although dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2GB, I recommend about a 300MB max for less chance of corruption.Information about the maximum file size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=903095After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often.Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. Open Outlook Express, click Tools then Options, click on Maintenance, if you put a check in the box "Empty messages from the "Deleted Items" folder on exit" when you close Outlook Express your deleted messages are automatically deleted. You said you would like to keep sent messages for the last 30 days. However if you do not really want to keep any go to the Send Tab and uncheck "Save copy of sent messages in the "Sent Items" folder.signed.....fyip.....for your information please!

Once you get the deletions accomplished, then compact the folders to remove the space the messages took up. The folder size won't change unless you compact it and it can corrupt the folder if you don't. steve <Pacavany> wrote in message news:Email removed for privacy...Does anyone know how to remove/delete accumulated messages in both my "Deleted" Folder and in my "Sent" folder.
