Delete Error code 0x800ccc0D
I had a connection error when I tried to send an email from Outlook Express 6.The Connection Error dialog boxappeared with the note: “The host 'mail.adam.com.au' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered theserver name correctly. Account: 'mail.adam.com.au', Server: 'mail.adam.com.au', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110,Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11004, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D”. I deleted the email from the O.E. Outboxbut the Connection Error dialog box now appears every time I open O.E. with the same note. How do I delete themessage to stop the dialog from appearing? I have now corrected the problem.1 person needs an answerI do too

Port 110 is the incoming port so I wonder why this happened after trying to send using Port 25? Please explain your last sentence, "I have now corrected the problem". Did you?Let's create a new Outbox and Sent Item folder to see if the outgoing message damaged either, or it was a coincidence. Also, disable e-mail scanning. See the bold print below.Move most of your messages out of the Inbox and then create new Outbox and Sent Items folders after you move any messages you wish to save to a local folder you create.Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer or, copy and paste it into Start | Run.In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. With OE closed, find the DBX files for the Outbox & Sent Items and delete them. New ones will be created automatically when you open OE.After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often.Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.General precautions for Outlook Express:Do not archive mail in the Inbox or Sent Items. Create your own user defined folders and move the messages you wish to save to them. Empty Deleted Items folder daily. Although dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2GB, I recommend about a 300MB max for less chance of corruption.Information about the maximum file size of the .dbx files that are used by Outlook Express:http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=903095Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for loss of messages. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your emailhttp://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htmNote that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program and reinstall in Custom Mode and uncheck e-mail scanning when the option arises. Compact often as specified above. And backup often.Outlook Express Quick Backup (OEQB Freeware)http://www.oehelp.com/OEBackup/Default.aspx Bruce HagenMS-MVP Oct. 1, 2004 ~ Sept. 30, 2010Imperial Beach, CA

Hi BruceAdam Internet was my original service provider and server - mail.adam.com.au. It was a dial-up account. I'm now on Broadband using a mobile broadband modem. I created another email account to use Hotmail as a server, but didn't make it the default account. When the connection error happened I was connected to the net via Broadband and accidentally tried to send an email from Outlook Express via mail.adam.com.au, the dial-up account. I corrected the problem by setting Hotmail as the default account. (I will delete the mail.adam.com.au account when I am sure that everyone knows that I have changed my address, as emails are downloaded from both accounts when I open O.E. on Broadband).I have actually had two connection errors, the second saying: "The host 'pop3.live.com' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'pop3.live.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 11004, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D". I think that that was from the live.com account not being setup properly. Again, I just deleted the unsent email from the Outlook Express Outbox thinking that would stop the Connection Error dialog box from appearing.I can now send and receive emails via Hotmail while using my Broadband modem without any problems and there is no corruption in any of the folders. I just want to stop that dialog box from appearing every time I open O.E. as the notes are no longer relevant. Many thanks for your swift reply and all of the other information included.

Note: I know almost zero about Hotmail, so.......I see the new error message is about Hotmail, not your old account. You are actually receiving Hotmail in OE? See this. How to add your Hotmail account to Microsoft Outlook Expresshttp://windowslivehelp.com/solution.aspx?solutionid=99d4b13d-13db-40d8-9cdf-172002d4194cHotmail and MSN Accounts POP3/SMTP Accesshttp://liveunplugged.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!F92775FC46A390CA!422.entry?sa=88094129Again, the error message refers to incoming mail. You can try a new Outbox and Sent Items to see if that helps.Move any messages you wish to save in Sent Items to a local folder you create.Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer or, copy and paste it into Start | Run.In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden.
