Defragmentation
Why is it that, if I do a defrag analysis of a specific hard drive using different defraggers, I invariably get a different % defragmentation from each program?I was under the impression that there was an API published by Microsoft that defraggers used to perform their functions yet it seems that some defraggers will take a lot longer to defrag a drive than others. Why might this be if they are using the same API?Is there any agreement on what is the most efficient file arrangement on a hard disk to minimise disk access times? Most defraggers offer an 'optimise' option so how does one distinguish between the 'optimisations'? I'm thinking particularly of Diskeeper, Ultimate Defrag, Auslogics Defrag and even Defraggler.Any insight greatly appreciated.TIA1 person needs an answerI do too
