I am trying to run a defrag using Diskeeper but I keep getting an error message that says " MMC has detected an error in a snap-in. Shut down and restart MMC. I have no idea how to restart MMC ! I am running Windows XP Home version.I have been having the same problem for months. I figured it out...la de la run chkdsk /f..chkdsk /r ...volume in use NTFS on and on. run chkdsk /f next reboot..la de la....I am running Norton Anti-Virus. I totally un-installed Norton and prompt may say re-start..OKIE DOKIE...then the chkdsk that I previously said "yes" started. I let run all the way through (make take up to several hours depending upon the size of your hard drive so let it run through. Once completed and computer restart I was able to run defrag on my C: drive. (run defrag a couple of times as it does not pick up all the bits and pieces first go around...like putting the A-Z in alphabetical order. re-installed Norton and now it seems to work fine. Good luck as it did work for me after months of fiddle fartin around!Does it do the same using Microsoft Defrag? Start/All programs/accessories/system tools/defrag let me know Email removed for privacy
