Default games in Windows 7 won't load up
The default games won't load up..However the internet games do work.Is there any solutions to this?Do I have to install Directx 9 for the games to work? Thanks

instincts - By "default games" - I'm assuming you mean Solitaire, Spider Solitaire, Purble Place, MahJong Titans, and Chess Titans...In which case, No.. You do not want to install DirectX 9. They should work by themselves, without any additional software. You might want to check your Windows Experience Index scores. All of the games you mention require a minimumscore of 1, with a recommendation of 2.If I recall correctly, you do need Aero to make these games to work. Make sure your video card is capable of this.

I just applied the old windows classic theme andhavechess titans running with animations enabled.Windows 7 comes with the required direct x components so there is no need to install direct x.

Yeah, those games. My windows experience index score is 4.5. This should be enough right? My video card is NVIDIA Geforce 7600, is this capable?

Are your games on the start menu? If not, try opening control panel > programs and features > turn windows featurs on or off > games

What is the status of your video card driver?
August 17th, 2009 1:31pm

I don't think I installed a video card driver because I didn't need it on my previous XP OS.Do I need to install this?

No promises but in some instances updating your videodriver may allowgraphics dependant applications to run.The video drivers from win updates or 7 win disk are not always 100% compatible. Windows 7 somtimes will blockthe nessasary hardware manufacturer video drivers from installing for whichthere are workarounds.

You may also want to examine your event viewer.

Good question. Maybe under applications and services or windows logs > applications.

Hi instincts, Does the issue occur recently or since you installed Windows 7? If the games cannot run since Win 7 is installed, you may try to reinstall the system. If the issue occurs recently, you may try a system restore or an in-place upgrade. Besides, you can check whether the game process shows in Task Manager when you try to run a game. Open Task Manager, if the game is under Applications tab, you can right click the game item, choose Maximize. If the game is not under Applications tab, you can also check the process tab. Please tell me what you have found. Regards.Cecilia Zhou

The game doesn't show up in the Applications tab or the process tab when I try to load it.I don't think the game doesn't even load.I'm not sure when this happened.. it's not a huge deal in my life if I can't play games but it's just a nagging feeling that this part of Windows 7 is not working.

instincts - Do you know if they ever worked? You may have installed something that's causing a problem - and as such, you could try system restore. If that still doesn't fix it, you might still want to try Cecilia's suggestion of an in-place upgrade. It will leave your files and apps installed but will set Win 7 back to it's default state. Once you've got that done, try the games again.

Would an in-place upgrade work on Windows 7 Ultimate? because isn't Ultimate the highest you can go?
August 18th, 2009 8:05pm

Believe it of not you can do an inplace upgrade to thesame version but it takes some time and you may have toreinstall some applications after so use this as a last resort.Another option is an SFC scan which does not take very long to complete.Open a command promt and type "SFC /SCANNOW" w/o quotes and the system file checker utility will replace whatever corrupt files it finds.

Insert the 7 install disk into your dvd drive. Wait for the setup screen or click on the drive icon and follow the prompts. When given the choice of upgrade or custom select upgrade and just wait for it to finish. Two hours possibly. It's worth it for Chess Titans.

Would an in-place upgrade work on Windows 7 Ultimate? because isn't Ultimate the highest you can go? instincts - Yes... An in-place upgrade is not the same as an Anytime Upgrade - even though the Anytime Upgrade uses an In-Place upgrade. An Anytime Upgrade changes a lower tiered edition to a higher one. You buy a higher edition, get a key and Windows then installs thehigher edtion using the in-place upgrade method. An in-place upgrade merely reinstalls the same one - as described by Mr Seven:"Insert the 7 install disk into your dvd drive. Wait for the setup screen or click on the drive icon and follow the prompts. When given the choice of upgrade or custom select upgrade and just wait for it to finish. Two hours possibly. It's worth it for Chess Titans. "

The In-place Upgrade is a tool to repair the system. Through the special upgrade process, we will be able to repair the system. The In-place Upgrade will not affect settings like photos, movies, documents, etc. that are saved on the computer. Though this operation will not remove or modify the installed programs and files, I still suggest you backup the important files before doing this. In addition, you may have to reinstall the device drivers after this operation. The detail steps are included as below: In-place upgrade====================1. Log on the system first. 2. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in the computer's DVD drive. 3. Click Start and choose Computer.4. Find the "setup.exe" file in the DVD-ROM and double click it.5. Click Install now. 6. When you are prompted to input the product key, please click Next directly without inputting any key. The setup wizard will prompt and asking if you confirm to install Windows Vista without the key and please choose to confirm. 7. When you reach the "Which type of installation do you want" screen, click Upgrade to upgrade the system files of Windows 7.Note: While performing the in-place upgrade, the system will restart automatically (Several times) to merge the files and programs, please leave the computer alone and do not configure it until the "in-place upgrade" completed. The system will start Windows 7 once it is upgraded. Once the computer is performing "in-place upgrade", you can leave the computer away and it will complete automatically.Cecilia Zhou
